A not for profit performance company based in Overland Park, Kansas, the American Youth Ballet is dedicated to presenting quality dance performances throughout the region. The company consists of pre-professional dancers who aspire to achieve a high level of excellence in performance.
The American Youth Ballet serves as an educational charity by creating a vehicle for young artists to grow and learn while sharing with the community the importance of music and dance.
Created in 1979 by Dennis and Kathy Landsman, the American Youth Ballet has been inspiring the community for over thirty years. Under the direction of Kristopher Estes-Brown and Jennifer Tierney, the company has continued to grow both in its audience base and repertory. AYB has produced five new full length ballets and over 40 smaller mixed repertory pieces in the last five seasons alone.
The company is comprised completely of student dancers ranging from age 10 to 19. Often company dancers are joined on stage during productions by professional dancers from such companies as BalletMet, Sacramento Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Colorado Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theater, and Oakland Ballet.
The American Youth Ballet dancers train at the American Dance Center. Conveniently located at 119th and Quivira, the American Dance Center is the premiere classical ballet dance school in the Kansas City area.
